1. The Standard Method (Retrogression/Handicap) [1, 2]
This method is used by many tournament software systems (like Golf Genius) to determine the winner without needing a playoff:
- Best score on the #1 handicap hole (most difficult hole).
- If still tied, best score on the #2 handicap hole.
- Continue comparing holes in descending order of difficulty (\(#3, #4\), etc.) until the tie is broken.
